Math-U-See

Oh my gosh is all I can say about this curriculum. I mean where has this been all my life. I ordered kits for both my kids for next year Delta for A and Zeta for for M. With levels from basic math through Calculus this program will last your child their entire school career. For General math the levels are Primer, Alpha, Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon and Zeta. For secondary math the levels are Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, PreCalculus and Calculus. There is also a unit called Stewardship which teaches consumer/ real life math skills like balancing a checkbook, making a budget and understanding loans.

I bought a used Gamma DVD from a curriculum resell site to fill in the gaps while we were distance learning and I’m so glad I did. The Gamma program covers whole number multiplication. The change I’ve seen in both kids was almost instantaneous from the very first lesson. The lessons are short so we actually were able to go through several lessons a day as it’s review vs learning a new concept.

Watching the light bulb come on in their eyes thrills me to no end. I have even had some aha moments myself as Mr. Demme goes over things and I just can't help but think I could have been so much better at math. His way to teach is simple and straightforward. The added use of his unique set of manipulatives is the icing on the cake to this awesome system. Have a small space you can buy the manipulatives on an app and get the same great benefit without taking up the space.

I have to humble brag on A for a bit because at school even with an extra hour of RTI in math everyday she was still failing/barely passing math. Within the first week we used the curriculum she is not only crushing her math facts but she is crushing multiplication single digit times multi digit and multi digit times multi digit. She is even mastering concepts that are usually taught in a higher grade level. M is also getting a lot from the lessons and reinforcing those skills he’s always struggled with.

The blocks are so easy to use and make the problem come to life and they have even taken to quizzing each other on math problems when we take breaks I’m so excited to start our DVDs for next year as A will get into division which has always ended in tears. She is asking to do math and that has never ever happened before. If you have a multi sensory learner I highly recommend this program for all families as it builds on itself each year and grows with your child.

One of the things I heard Mr. Demme repeat often through the lesson was an ancient proverb " Tell me, I forget. Show me, I understand. Let me do it, I remember." That is exactly how he has modeled his program and why it works so well.
