Small victories

M is a determined child so once he gets his mind set to something it’s hard to change it. We are on vacation and being dirty/sandy has always been difficult for him and the beach has always been a struggle. I was hopeful this trip with friends would be helpful to see the other kids and understand it’s ok. He made great efforts to get out on the beach and out in the water and tolerate as long as he could. I was so proud of how well he did. if he would reach his limit we would go but I encouraged him to try and stay out a bit longer each time. He even built a sandcastle and got his feet buried in the sand. Autism didn’t win this trip he did. He conquered his fears and his sensory issues. I’m so proud of my big dude.

He’s quite a brave boy. I understand about the sand as I hate to get it on me. It’s sticky & sticks to you all over. I could only tolerate it as a small child. I like the water as you’re more buoyant, but the sand ruins it all. It’s almost like glue. Yuck!
